Research

Gerd Carling is Associate Professor (Docent) in general linguistics at Lund University. She has MA and Dr.Phil. degrees in comparative Indo-European linguistics from Gothenburg University and has been a Humboldt postdoctoral researcher at Christian Albrecht University, Kiel, as well as at Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study in Uppsala. She has also spent much time at École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris. Her research interest include dead and moribund languages, language and culture, and language documentation. Currently, she is working on a project aiming at compiling big data sets for tracking prehistoric language contact and flow of cultural impact the language areas of Europasia and Amazon. She is a specialist in the extinct language Tocharian, as well as the moribund language Scandoromani.
